Autumn Greetings -

September flew right by with three speaking engagements and some new business. October is off to a fast start too after a fabulous day in Vancouver, WA at the beginning of the month with my Marketing Coach, Veronika Noize, and MasterMind group. What a fabulous group of women. I left encouraged, challenged and inspired! I'm going to have a BIG announcement to share with you in the next couple weeks as a result. I can't wait to tell you more!

It's interesting when speaking requests come in how several seem to be looking for similar themes. The "theme" for October has turned out to be Customer Service. It's a speaking topic I bring from my corporate days working for IT Organizations. If you happen to be local and want to improve your business results, you are invited to join me. There are two opportunities to hear my 3 important keys to help you provide outstanding customer service with a little Fish, Fries and Pickles! See details below or on my Events & Classes web page.

This month's Guilt-Free article

As I'm sure you know, October is breast cancer awareness month. Breast cancer takes the lives of more than 40,000 women and men each year. Yet if a cancer is detected early by a mammogram, survival rates increase, according to the American Cancer Society.

I have an article I previously wrote that has never been published in my newsletter. I thought of only sending it to the ladies on my list, but then I realized that all the gentlemen on the list have a special lady in their lives - a mother, sister, aunt, daughter, etc. PLUS, if the NFL can help raise awareness with their pink gear, why not share my story with everyone too.

Take Care of the Girls!

Unless you live under a rock, you know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While it’s important to have a mammogram done whatever the month, reminders to do so, and the benefits of early detection, are really driven home during October. So it was quite fitting that I personally went for my very first mammogram last October 2, 2008.

Oh sure, I’m like A LOT of women who have put off having this potentially lifesaving screening performed. The "horror stories" of pain, torture and pancake squishing kept me away too. After a stern prodding from my physician, and encouragement from my YOUNGER sister who had it done, I finally succumbed.

I’m happy to report that it’s not painful at all. Sure, you feel a bit vulnerable, uncomfortable and maybe slightly embarrassed, but it’s not horrible! I had a sweet woman who explained each step as we went and did her best to ensure I was as comfortable as possible.

Here are three things I learned:

1. For me, part of being a guilt-free Mom is taking care of myself so I’m at my best for those I love and serve. If I’m not being proactive about my health, I’m not walking my own talk! It would also be dishonest to my own core value of family. To value my family means I must value myself so I’m able to do all I desire with and for them.

2. Things aren’t always as bad as you think they’ll be. I help the majority of the clients with whom I work overcome their own self doubt and fear; fears that are generally unfounded or misplaced. I realized I had let fear get the best of me and I wasn’t going to stand for it any longer!

3. My screening was NORMAL! Yaaaayyyy!

How ’bout you?

Remember what Benjamin Franklin said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” If you truly want a different result when it comes to taming your time and managing your schedule, you’ve got to try something new!
