Happy early 4th of July!

Before heading into the holiday weekend, I wanted to share with you some exciting news! The couple past months I’ve given several talks and a workshop on quieting the negative self-talk and developing a strong and empowering inner self. They have been extremely well received and folks have been asking for more information on this topic.

Well, I’m answering! Beginning July 9th, I’ll be hosting a six-week teleclass Your Guilt-Free Mental Makeover and walking participants through my brand new workbook, Upgrade Your Mindset & Undo the Guilt
(PDF workbook excerpt). To ensure individual attention, class size will be limited to ten participants. For those who act fast and register in the next 24 hours, you'll save 20% on the course and workbook!

This months Guilt-Free article

Last week I co-hosted a teleseminar on Long Term Planning and Quarterly Reviews. The topic REALLY struck a chord generating the highest registration I’ve had yet! June is a great time to review your goals and modify your plans for getting them done by the end of the year. To continue with that theme, the article for today is my 5 Strategies for Achieving Your Goals.

To your continued success!

5 Strategies for Achieving Your Goals

Whether it’s the beginning of a new year or just a time of reevaluation, here are five key strategies to realizing your goals:

1. Give yourself the gift of time

Every busy executive, pooped professional or multi-tasking mom feels the pressures of not having enough time. Sometimes to get the very thing we want most, we have to give it up. Open your calendar right now and block out the time you need to focus on your goals. Take that time to sit in a quiet place and let you’re thoughts flow.

When you have a clear vision of where you’re going, managing your time gets easier. You will be able to say “No” more easily to those things that don’t support your goals or direction, and in turn, have more time for those things that matter most to you.

2. As Stephen Covey says, “Begin with the end in mind”

Picture yourself one year from now having achieved your goal. Then work back to the present identifying the action steps you need to take to achieve this goal. A benefit of this type of “back to the future” planning is it gets you in the habit of seeing yourself as having already achieved the goal. It’s a way of harnessing the power of your mind and subconscious. It’s also helpful for measuring your progress.

3. Keep your appointments with yourself

Now that you know where you’re headed and even a bit of how you’re going to get there, the next step is to “Just Do It”. Don’t leave those tasks on some long, overwhelming, to-do list. Instead, schedule times throughout your day and week dedicated to specific tasks…and then keep that appointment just as you would one with someone else! You’ll be amazed at how much progress you can make taking small but consistent steps.

4. Trim your sails

Friends of mine are avid sailors and have taken my family and me out for a spin or two around Lake Michigan. I'm always amazed how fast we can go with no motor! The key to that speed, however, is “trimming the sails” to make the most of the available winds. As you travel along the path towards your goals, the “winds” are going to change. You may find that you wish to alter your destination or that the route you planned to take won't produce the desired results. Sit down weekly or monthly to review your plans and see where you need to make adjustments.

5. Maintain momentum with structures

Structures are devices that can help remind you of your vision, goals, purpose or actions you want to take. Timers or alarms can be used to remind you to do something specific like review your goals, make a phone call, or get ready for bed. Or, wear socks that don’t match for a week to help you remember not to procrastinate. If you are a visual person, try putting an encouraging message to yourself on your screensaver marquee or post affirmations and inspiring quotations on your refrigerator or bathroom mirror. Play a favorite song in the morning to set the tone for your day. Be creative!

Give these strategies a try for the next 30 days and let me know what kind of impact they have on the journey towards your goals. I invite you to drop me a note at Victoria@TheGuiltFreeCoach.com and share your successes as well as challenges. Contact me if you need additional information about overcoming obstacles!
